Thinking big

To celebrate their 18th birthday, Wotif asked Maverick to deliver something big.

From the Big Banana to the Big Trout, Australia has more than 150 ‘big’ landmarks that have become a curious part of our cultural identity.  Tapping into this love of larger-than-life roadside attractions, we asked Australians to vote on what the next big thing should be.  Nudging out The Big Peanut suggested for Kingaroy in Queensland, The Big Kilt for Glenn Innes NSW and The Big Tulip for Mittagong NSW, the voted winner was The Big Melon for Chinchilla, Queensland.

Maverick managed the custom design, build and installation of a four tonne, nine metre slice of watermelon that now takes pride of place in the ‘melon capital of Australia’, population 6,600.

The campaign received huge coverage in national and local media, with the unveiling of The Big Melon covered live by the Nine Network.
